Spicy Italian Sausage and Shrimp Over Penne Pasta

The family loves it when I make this dish. It's great anytime and of course very simple to make!!

Ingredients:
4-5 links hot Italian sausage (use sweet if you don't like spicy)
1lb whole shrimp
1lb penne pasta
28oz can tomato sauce (not spaghetti sauce)
1/4C heavy cream
1Tbls fresh basil (cut into thin ribbons)
2tsp dried oregano
2tsp dried thyme
2-3 cloves garlic chopped
1/2 med onion chopped
salt & pepper to taste
grated parmesan (optional)
Directions:
Prepare pasta according to directions on original package. Heat a large saucepan to medium heat. Add 1/4C water and sausage. Cover and cook for 8min. Uncover and allow water to evaporate. Remove sausage and set aside. Cut sausage into 1/4inch slices and return to pan with onion and garlic. Continue to stir occasionally for about 1-2min or until onions are tender. Pour tomato sauce into pan along with basil, oregano, thyme, salt and pepper. Bring to a slow simmer for about 3min. Stir in cream until completely incorporated. Fold in shrimp, sauce to a slow simmer cover pan and remove from heat. Let stand for 2min. and serve immediately over pasta and top with parmesan.
